About Us
Who We Are
Welcome to Walk Mornington Peninsula!
Founded by Taryn, a fitness enthusiast with a passion for health and community. Our group started in February 2021 during the COVID-19 lockdowns. Taryn saw how isolation was affecting her loved ones and wanted to create a way for people to connect through the simple joy of walking. She posted a small Facebook ad, and four people showed up for her first walk.
From there, Walk Mornington Peninsula was born!
Since then, we’ve completed over 200 hikes and covered approximately 2,500 kilometers across the stunning landscapes of the Mornington Peninsula. We offer a variety of walks, from moderate 5-7km fitness walks to more challenging 10-20km hikes through bushland and along the coast.
We’d love to have you join us for a hike! It’s a great way to meet new people and enjoy being part of our awesome community. Can’t wait to see you there!

When can I get a ticket?
It’s ticket time…
To make it easier for you to plan, we release tickets TEN days ahead of each event at 7pm. This way, you can be sure you’re getting a spot without too many last-minute changes.
If you’re thinking about joining us for a Saturday hike, tickets go on sale at 7pm on the Wednesday of the previous week. For a Sunday walk, set a reminder for 7pm on the Thursday before. Can’t wait to have you join us for some amazing adventures!
Can I join on my own?
Absolutely! You’re more than welcome to join us on your own. Many of our walkers join independently, so you’ll be in great company! Don’t worry about feeling nervous – as soon as you arrive, one of our friendly leaders will make you feel right at home. Plus, joining solo gives you a better opportunity to connect with others who are also flying solo. However, if you’d prefer to bring a friend along for extra comfort, feel free to do so. We’re all about making sure you feel at ease and enjoy your experience!
Can I wear runners?
A good pair of walking shoes is necessary, which could be trail runners or hiking boots. It is recommended to avoid jogging runners as they may not provide enough grip, although it is not a strict requirement. No open toe shoes.
How do I know if I’m fit enough?
Our 10+ kilometre FITNESS hikes/are perfect for those who have been keeping active during the week with gym sessions, runs, Pilates etc.
Moving with a group certainly helps with keeping the pace. Remember, coastal terrain can be challenging but incredibly rewarding!
If you haven’t been active during the week, consider joining our 5–8-kilometre walks/Hikes. We do recommend prior to joining that you start to increase your walking around the block. Try and raise your heart rate. You’ll be amazed at how much progress you can make in a few weeks. It’s incredible how quickly your body can adapt with a little consistency.

I missed out on a ticket!
We totally get how disappointing it feels when you miss snagging a ticket. But hey, good news! Sometimes folks have to change their plans, which means tickets might become available again closer to the event.
If you pop your name on the waitlist, we’ll keep you in the loop. Imagine getting that email saying a ticket has opened just for you!
And don’t worry if the waitlist gets a bit long – we’ve got you covered! If needed, we’ll even plan a second walk to make sure everyone gets a chance to join in on the fun. So, what are you waiting for? Put your name down and let’s get ready to explore together!
Can anyone join?
Absolutely! Well, almost everyone is welcome here, regardless of gender. We embrace diversity and love having people from all backgrounds and walks of life join our group.
However, currently, we’re unable to accommodate children under 18. It’s not because we don’t want them, our walks aren’t quite child-friendly yet. But don’t worry, we’re working on adding family-friendly walks in the future! Stay tuned for updates!
What to expect
Upon joining Walk Mornington Peninsula, you can expect a warm welcome from our leader and their support crew!
The group will gather upon arrival to discuss the plan for our adventure, including details on the route and the introduction of our leaders, who will ensure the safety of those at the back of the group.
Once we have completed our hike or walk and returned to our cars, we do like to follow our hikes with a well-deserved breakfast at a local café. We are also known to stop in at Hotel Sorrento for a quick beverage too. Everyone is invited.
Should you have any questions or concerns, our leader, Taryn, would be more than happy to assist you. We look forward to your company on one of our upcoming hikes/walks.

What Our Hikers Say
Joining Walk Mornington Peninsula has been a great addition to my life in the last 12 months. Taryn organises great scenic walks at different locations in the Peninsula.
I’ve walked so many tracks that I would have neither found not ventured walking on my own. Taryn, Steph and Tina keep us on our toes. And while we keep a good pace and increase our fitness, the atmosphere is always good vibes, and I’ve met a lot of wonderful, friendly people. This is a great weekend activity. If you like walks, being out in nature, and people, I highly recommend you give it a go.

I joined this fab group for their last walk of 2023. I’ve been on a total of 9 walks in about 3 months so suffice to say, I love the brilliant walks that Taryn meticulously plans.
If it wasn’t for kids’ sport on Saturdays, I’d be doing every walk! I particularly love the variety of walks … sometimes it’s a beautiful lush walk in Baldry’s Circuit, other weeks a walk along the breathtaking coast to Bushrangers Bay or a walk to the gorgeous rockpools at Montfort Beach. I prefer the pace of the fitness walks but I won’t say no to a cruisier “newbie walk” if there’s a good track that I haven’t experienced before! Try it for yourself and if you’ve been following the group for a while, take the next step, you won’t regret it. Thanks Taryn for everything you put into your little biz, it’s much appreciated.

3 years ago, a friend posted photos of her walks with this group. I decided to give it a go and I am now getting 'very' close to my 100th walk.
Taryn ensures we see some of the best scenery the Mornington Peninsula has to offer, that we get fitter and stronger and make lifelong friends with all types of interests. This is clearly one of the best decisions I have made in my life and believe me I am not nearly as young as some of my fellow walkers. As they say on the NIke ad - Just Do It!

Walk Mornington Peninsula (WMP) popped up in my Instagram feed. I wanted to walk longer distances and discover new walking tracks. I took the plunge and joined WMP on my own.
The group is so welcoming and the coastal tracks are breathtaking. I have done over 50 walks with WMP and connected with some wonderful people. Highly recommend.
